The Wall Township Committee meeting at InfoAge went well. All the
members were very encouraging in their public comments on our progress.
We thanked the current members for holding this second committee
meeting at InfoAge. We thanked InfoAge BOT members Claire French and
John Cervini, who also attended, for their support for over a decade.
The Township committee members are the current representatives of a body
which has enabled and supported InfoAge since 1994. We thanked them for
the TRUST they have given us and the FUNDS they have placed at our
disposal to maintain the 37 acre historic district. Not every community
would take the risk. For taking that risk we have delivered over $5
million in improvements and the community has given a gift to our nation
by saving this amazing historic site. Thanks to their support the Wall
Township taxpayers are enjoying tax savings at this difficult time
thanks to the work of our volunteers. We challenged the committee to
embrace saving Camp Evans as a community project. The cost of replacing
the remaining roofs is $350,000. Once the roofs are replaced we have
met the minimal terms of the surplus historic properties program. The
buildings will be stabilized. We accepted the historic property and its
buildings and agreed to save the site and its buildings as a historic
site. We asked they use their influence to encourage the Public to
donate to save the roofs. We also pointed out the time is getting
closer for Wall and other local schools schools to partner with
InfoAge. We can provide low cost space for special programs and
possibly even laboratory space. This will reduce taxpayer costs and
help improve the delivery of science history education.
The eagle... The eagle chick has made its first flight and left the
nest. The state will be giving the town permission to remove the
barricades from our parking lot after July 5th. We will be able to cut
the hedges and grass outside the restricted area around cottage 9003 and
its garage. We will be able to use the Marconi Road parking lot for
normal activities. After August 1st the restrictions on the areas north
of Marconi Road will be removed. This will enable us to remove the
fallen branches, repair the roof damage to the 9003 garage, repair the
9003 sewer line problems, continue work on the walking paths along the
river, remove the over-grow along the road to 9004/5 and announce the
completion of three paths and the Rum-runners grove by eagle scouts for
public enjoyment of the river area.
Report from Ray Chase and the Wednesday team:
Present were: Ray C., Al K., Harry K., Dave Snellman, Vince L. and Ron
B. Most of the new men's room stall latches were installed in 9032 and
the rest rooms were cleaned. Wiring for outlets in 9312 was completed.
Work continued on the teletype in the communications room, it's not
fully working yet but no further smoke. Ron has finished painting the
walls in the 9032 C room, the floor is next. We are trying to finalize
a video display to show how a Theremin is really played. Adjustments
were made to the 9032 D&C vestibule ramp to clear an interference.
Venetian blinds salvaged from Brookdale buildings were washed for the
9032 communications room.
Question: are we doing anything for Wall Day??

This week, I sorted the building drawings I cataloged so as to free up
the upstairs for renovation. Between the Radiological Shield building
and the explosion proof chamber, it was really interesting. Today
(Tuesday), I got some more stuff listed on ebay to hopefully give us
some extra space and some extra cash.

*Ron B. donated a metal divers helmet, sea knife and weighted boots to
NJHDA. Dan Leib is ecstatic over the donation. He has a great idea for
a fun exhibit using the helmet.
*NJHDA had a spot on Wednesday the 23rd on News Ch12. It included a
spot inside the shipwreck museum.
*Dan arranged for a film crew to use 9043 for some filming by Proper
Television - They gave us a cash donation.
*We have asked for a estimate to repair the hotel chimney leaks,
complete the re-roofing of the main H-building corridor by 9036/7 D as
well as the 9036 A/B north central corridor entrance. This will
eliminate four major leaks in the roof.
*We sent another CD of labeled aerial photos of Camp Evans from 1971 to
the NPS to help with the NHL application.
*The NJ Senate Bill SCR-85 is in the Veterans Affairs committee. We
hope for further action in September.
*We have word from BRAC that the septic tanks removal work may occur in
July or August. The transfer of 9004 and 9005 may occur in 9011.
*We have started repairing the damaged and fallen sheet rock sections in
9010A.
*The pre-publication book sales for "Camp Evans - the Untold Story"
continue to increase.
*Joe G. has nearly completed a massive archive project. Months ago
volunteers began cataloging the hundreds of architectural drawings of
the 50+ buildings at Camp Evans. John T. helped the project progress.
Finally we took over 9032A, set up lots of tables and sorted for two
days. The last step is to arrange all the drawings, store they away and
list them on our archive web page.

proof. Who says he can only click a mouse.

We have been extremely busy getting ready for our classic car show
and the yard sale. Nels and Pete have the site looking better than ever.
Reports from Ray Chase and the Wednesday team:
Present were Ray C., Harry K., Al K., Dave Snellman and Ron B. Harry
and Dave scrapped and re-painted the RTM outside sign that had suffered
from the winter weather. Ron continued as a first class painter in the
communications room, 9032 C. Al continues on planning for that room.
We also made a trip to Freehold to work on our display at the Jewish
Heritage museum that open on June 1st.
Present were: Ray C., Harry K., Dave Snellman and Ron B. Ron was back
to his painting role in the 9032 Communications room. Some planning for
9312 was done alone with work on repairing the wooden walk up to the
9032 D & C vestibule. The stall door latches in the 9032 rest rooms are
being replaced with new ones; the originals are too gummed up with years
of paint.
Reports from Joe G.:
This week, I have nearly finished sorting through InfoAge for garage
sale fodder. If anyone has something that they would be willing to
donate to the garage sale to be sold, please contact me at
starbase89@gmail.com. My current plan is that on Wednesday before the
meeting, everyone will come out to the yard sale section to make sure I
am not selling any heirlooms or treasures. I also got help in continuing
the organization of 9010, to hopefully finish it soon. On Sunday, I
drove out to a couple of Lowes Hardware stores, and obtained all needed
lights and hardware for the main corridor in 9032.
This week, Judy Warren and I began to set up the garage sale merchandise
in 9037. Between arranging things and pricing, it will probably take a
few more days to complete. I also worked on Monday to clean up the
"clearing barrel" area near the front gate. The garbage in there was
enough to half-fill a trash bag. I began work this weekend on a holding
bin for garbage bags that will be located outside the gate, up against
the guard shack 9093. Lastly, I have been helping Steve G. in working on
bringing the 8-legged testing tower back to life as our WiFi hotspot and
security outpost. Between Saturday and Sunday, I entered ~350 drawings
into the database, and more day should finish the pile. I put some
interesting ones, namely a contamination report from 1996, and the
electrical layouts for the hotel's blackout system.

decisions to be made by Al Klase. TTY in exhibit. A switch board
planned, plus tank communications and Jammers.
Steve G.: Working on removing stained and damaged drop ceiling in
9010A. Looking to find power feed to 9178 tower. Work on Lock system
and workshop continues.
Chris Szabo, a new member joined our Wednesday meeting
Lou R.: Had the quote for the dining room and lounge AC ready to be
signed. This project is funded by an excellent gift by ITT.
Dan L.: In 9057 the door jams are up and primed. 9032 area is cleaned
for the car show. Placemat program is progressing. Brochure exchange
project going well. Articles for next Newsletter due July 31st .
Contactor done with all the work except the clean-up and inspection of
9029, 31 and 34. News 12 series – ‘Treasure Hunting’ will have a
program on NJHDA.
Terry L.: Membership program going well. We have gained nearly $3500 in
donations. We are creating standard letters, thank you and other
forms. Terry will have a membership table at the garage sale. The new
‘down-sized’ 2 sided brochure will cost $800 for 5000.
Will S.: His group will begin working on their wave science exhibit in
9010A.
Mike G.: Good progress on the garage sale. Thanks to Dan L. for making

printers. This a tremendous accomplishment. I hope to remember to

John Cervini’s WWII electronic warfare exhibit is getting better every
week. Thanks to Ray C. for securing one of the ‘Invasion of Japan’
radio jammers for the exhibit. Luckily this one and thousands like it
were not needed.
Boy Scout Tim Troppoli is now an Eagle. He is the 16th young man who
has earned his eagle award helping preserve Camp Evans. Tim finished
the ‘Fallout shelter theater’. Thank you to Steve G., Dan L and many
others who helped Tim with his project. Our 17th Eagle could be Alex
Lo, grandson of a D-Day soldier. His court of honor is planned for Aug.
15th in our dining room. Alex made repairs to 9029 – the WWII guard
Headquarter building.
The Eagles - things have been quiet. The last report an eagle watcher
made to the police was not followed up by the state eagle patrol.
Please do not enter the closed off area. During the car show we are
simply to use our Marconi Road parking lot for parking only. If you use
the parking lot, you must go immediately and directly into a building.
We have a new layout for this event. The Coast Star has a story of how
Sea Girt was fined $53,000 by the Federal Wildlife Service and the NJ
DEP for the 2007 death of a beach plover chick. The parties were in
court for years. At $53K for a small plover, we do not want to find the
price on an eagle.
Bill M. Cablevision has let us know the segment on our TIROS celebration
on his Neighborhood Journal is now available via Cablevisions ‘On
Demand’. Thank you to Bill.
State Senator Sean T. Kean and Senator James Beach has introduced Senate
Concurrent Resolution No. 85 on March 4, 2010 which recognizes Camp
Evans for its designation for its as a State and National Historic
District and supporting its preservation as World War II living
memorial. You can read the bill by visiting the NJ Legislature website
and entering SCR85. We should discuss ways to support the passage of
this bill and how to use it to create publicity. I attended a
breakfast sponsored by Assemblyman Dave Rible to meet Lt. Governor Kim
Guadagno. I gave the Lt. Governor a folder with a formal letter to
request her support for the bill and an introduction to Camp Evans.
As you know saving Camp Evans (The Signal Corps Radar Laboratory)
honors and represents the tens of thousands of New Jersey residents and
veterans of the greatest generation who designed and tested the prototypes
as well as the those who manufactured the radio, radar and other
advanced electronics that helped win WII. The National Park Service is
in process to designate Camp Evans as a National Historic Landmark for
its WWII Home front service. To quote President Truman on August 6,
1945, "The Battles of the laboratories held fateful risks for us as well
as the battles of the air, land and sea, and we have now won the battles
of the laboratories as we have won the other battles." To quote Winston
Churchill, "This was a secret war, whose battles were lost or won
unknown to the public; and only with difficulty is it comprehended, even
now, by those outside the small high scientific circles concerned. No
such warfare had ever been waged by mortal men. ---Winston Churchill
Thanks to Board Member Jim Allen a group of us will be meeting with
Assemblyman Declan J. O'Scanlon Jr. to discuss keeping the Fort Monmouth
Museum in NJ, specifically at Camp Evans. You know we will ask his
support for the bill also.
We have been invited to have a classroom size exhibit at the The *New
Jersey Science and Engineering Festival* * * www.njsciencefestival.org
sponsor list on their homepage. The festival will be taking place at
the Clifton High School Complex (the largest single campus high school
in New Jersey, with 100,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor exhibition
space) and Essex County (Caldwell) Airport on the weekend of October 23
and 24, 2010. It is a satellite event of the *USA Science and
Engineering Festival*, which will be taking place on the National Mall

We are making progress on our Community Block Grant thanks to Larry
Tormey and John Truhan. This will repair many of the broken curbs and
sidewalks around the hotel, 9032 and the center entrance to 9010.
The 22 international exchange students (AFS) who enjoyed their visit to
InfoAge sent us a nice donation.
Thanks to Pete R., Matt and Dan G. They opened the expanded Military
Technology Museum vehicle display in 9011. It looks great. They had it
ready for the veterans visit and the anniversary of V-E day
At the request of Randy G. and the Monmouth County Historical
Commission's we attended the follow-up meeting on the Weekend in Olde
Monmouth. We are looking forward to next years event.
After Nels cleaned up the mess behind 9033 we improved the landscaping
and planted several dozen variegated hosta plants to make the area look
nice and discourage its use as a catch all area.
Thank you to Judy W. for making the membership database updates,
preparing dozens of thank you notes, taking an inventory of items in the
hotel and recording the folder tabs in our files for easy information
and document location.
Thanks to Michele and Blossom our friends at the New Outlook Pioneers
were about to use extra care-pack donations for their underprivileged
Backpack program.

Exploratory Research. He told us of his research into radio propagation
through the ionosphere from the Diana site. They were working to
determine the Total Electron Content (TEC) of the ionosphere.

We have been invited to have a classroom size exhibit at the The *New
Jersey Science and Engineering Festival* * * www.njsciencefestival.org
sponsor list on their homepage. The festival will be taking place at
the Clifton High School Complex (the largest single campus high school
in New Jersey, with 100,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor exhibition
space) and Essex County (Caldwell) Airport on the weekend of October 23
and 24, 2010. It is a satellite event of the *USA Science and
Engineering Festival*, which will be taking place on the National Mall

We are making progress on our Community Block Grant thanks to Larry
Tormey and John Truhan. This will repair many of the broken curbs and
sidewalks around the hotel, 9032 and the center entrance to 9010.
The 22 international exchange students (AFS) who enjoyed their visit to
InfoAge sent us a nice donation.
Thanks to Pete R., Matt and Dan G. They opened the expanded Military
Technology Museum vehicle display in 9011. It looks great. They had it
ready for the veterans visit and the anniversary of V-E day
At the request of Randy G. and the Monmouth County Historical
Commission's we attended the follow-up meeting on the Weekend in Olde
Monmouth. We are looking forward to next years event.
After Nels cleaned up the mess behind 9033 we improved the landscaping
and planted several dozen variegated hosta plants to make the area look
nice and discourage its use as a catch all area.
Thank you to Judy W. for making the membership database updates,
preparing dozens of thank you notes, taking an inventory of items in the
hotel and recording the folder tabs in our files for easy information
and document location.
Thanks to Michele and Blossom our friends at the New Outlook Pioneers
were about to use extra care-pack donations for their underprivileged
Backpack program.
Thank you to Dan L. for making the new sign to point visitors to the
MTMof NJ historic vehicle exhibit.
Mike G. had a truck load of wood chip mulch delivered to improve the
look of the hotel flower beds.
Evan K., Jeff F. and other MARCH members with the help of Steve G. and
Joe G. are getting a section of 9010C ready for the expanded MARCH
exhibit.

This past Sunday we had 20+ volunteers to greet visitors or to work on
projects. I saw Steve G., Bernie R., Neil N., Evan K., Terry L., Phil

B., Jake D., Jeff F, Jeff B., and trainee docents Lou R., and Hanna.
We had some special visitors; Irv Bauman of the Camp Evans photography
technology unit and Dr. Haim Soicher of the Camp Evans Institute of
Exploratory Research. He told us of his research into radio propagation
through the ionosphere from the Diana site. They were working to
determine the Total Electron Content (TEC) of the ionosphere.

Our board of trustees has expanded by five new members, possibly a
sixth. The new members are Thomas Gagliano, John Cervini, Jim Allen,
Barb McMorrow and Robert Palazzo. The June Board meeting will be held
on a Wednesday so our meetings will overlap. Our membership has
elected our BOT representative, but as I have not told Mike G. he is it
and he has not yet accepted or taken the oath of office
The Eagles - things are calmer but, it still has potential for more
issues. As a review. A third of the parking lot is closed off. Do not
enter the closed off area. Note the new signs. The persons who watch
the eagles are reporting our activities to the state fish and wildlife
people. They have called in a number of issues. Please do not approach
or tell these persons anything. We are not to make noise during our
events. If you use the parking lot you must go immediately and
directly into a building. We can not hold the car-show in the parking
lot. We are working on a new layout for that event. Do not walk along
Marconi road or drive near cottage 9001. We can not mow or do any
property maintenance along Marconi road. The state will be posting
signs in our parking lot shortly. We will discuss this at the meeting.
This is not a joke. I have been threatened with a federal summons, if
there are any problems with the eagle chick.. Luckily, the eagles are
doing well in the location they chose. The hundreds of cars, trucks and
motorcycles passing by them on Marconi road do not bother them.
According to the state, just we do. Remember we are being watched and
these people are reporting on our activities to the state on a daily
basis.
Thanks to Bill M. Cablevision has a great segment on our TIROS
celebration on his Neighborhood Journal. We played a taped copy for
our meeting attendees outside the Cablevision viewing area. Another
great piece by Bill. Thanks to Dan J. for getting the player ready.

cleaning and rearrangement of storage and radio repair supplies in RTM
museum rooms.

2) An update from Ron and OMARC:
OMARC member Holger, K2HES, has installed a new intrusion alarm system
for building 9116. It is NOT alarmed at the present time. All those who
have access to the building will need a 4 digit code to enter. At our next
business meeting we will be assigning codes and instructions on how to
arm and
disarm the system. Thanks to Holger for doing a great job.

3) In preparation for the AFS visit Karin C. visited the cottage. Below
is John T's. activity report/
1 I moped the kitchen floor of the cottage
2 Bleached the kitchen Sink
3 Scrubbed the kitchen stove
4 cleaned the toilet sink and bathtub and mopped the floor in the bathroom
5 vacuumed all the rooms in the cottage
6 emptied all the waste baskets in the hotel bath room and restocked the
paper towels
7 cleaned the showers in the hotel
8 Steve and I took the cots over to the hotel
9 I spent 5 hours cataloging building prints
10 The first day I got here I joined Harry Al and Dave in scraping paint
of doors in 9032c

4) Dan L. and the contractor Kerry are have the repairs in firehouse
9031, and the WWII guard hdqs 9029 done. They are working on 9034.
This will be the quickest completion of a grant from the Monmouth County
Historical Commission we have done. Our next challenge is the siding
repairs and to improve the rain water drainage.
5) Thank you to Terry L., and the members of the membership committee.
Now nearly 60 members have renewed their membership resulting in nearly
$3000 in new funds.
6) Mel Nussbaum's dioramas look great. His radio and first computer
dioramas are a big hit with the family visitors. Nice work Mel.
7) Will Somers and the wave science guys are working to join InfoAge to
help get their museum started. We have a spot for them.
8) We planted 200+ more hosta plants on the south side of the hotel and
the 9032 courtyard to improve the look and reduce the hill mowing work
for Pete and Nels.

have a hit counter on every page. We also have a new frontpage graphic

Our audit is complete. All is good. We now have an audited financial
report for foundations who require one. We need to tune up a few
procedural items in our record keeping.

Present were Ray C., Harry K., Dave Snellman, Vince L., and Al K. The
balance weights for the doors to 9032 A section were installed so doors
operate easily. If it is desired to lock this section (not a bad idea)
a lock and latches need to be added. Continued work on 9032 C
communications and EW rooms. Went on scrounging search of buildings to
be razed to collect up hardware, venetian blinds, etc. Moved more stuff
to storage in H building. Worked on planning for the Jewish museum in
Freehold.
Present were: Ray C., Al K, Vince L., Dave Snellman, Harry K., John T.,
Steve G. and Joe G. Most of the day was taken up hosting the group of
25 veterans including several ladies. It was good experience for all
and we learned some things that we must alter to make the tour more
comfortable for seniors. ADA access is sorely needed. I was not sure
that the vehicle tour would work but it went fine and was most
impressive. It was great on Wednesday but when I saw what Nels and crew
did between Wednesday and Sunday I was amazed at their effort and
how superb it looked.
The Divers museum and the MARCH museum were also open and manned.
Some clean-up had to be done quickly before the group arrived, we must
strive to keep the place neat and not just dump trash anywhere we feel.
Some work was done on the future communications room in 9032C and Al K.
repaired a WWII field telephone switchboard for the communications
display so we can operate field phones through it.

both the office and the back closet. The mailbox is now in the back
closet with the soda machine, and the room is better organized overall.
I have also prepared the guard shack office for use as an office.
Between Saturday and Sunday, I had a good number of visitors to the
fallout shelter. Additionally, I have cleared out the cottage of most
of its junk. Lastly, I pulled two good metal shelves out of the moving
truck on Sunday before it filled with scrap.
This week, I started working on moving some of the flotsam in the hotel
and it's basement to the yard sale pile. I also continued work on
emptying Cottage 1 (9002) of its tons of stuff. As far as last week, I
got the office in the guard shack more-or-less functional as an office
for Judy Warren. I also cleaned and organized the guard shack closet and
placed a mail box in there.

1 The new shutoffs are installed on the sink upstairs in the board
room. Now I just have to connect the drain.
2 I fastened all the top-heavy book cases to the wall
3 I filled a the book cases in the conference room with the bound
newspapers and filled two book cases in the hallway with library books
4 I cut to size the 4 screws needed to mount the hardware on the one
book case in the hallway
5 I relocated all the smoke detectors in the cottage
6 I salvaged lumber John C. needed, but I ran out of time so I did not get
it ripped down to size
7 I cleaned a lot of the junk up in the e-shop
8 Dave Sica and I brought 3 pallets of Sarnoff stuff down to the Early
Television Convention
9 I'm working with the Camden County Historical Society on a date when
they will come pick their stuff up. It's looking like the end of this
month.

Monmouth County Historical Commission.

Nearly 50 members have renewed their membership resulting in nearly
$2000 in new funds.
8) The Wall ROTC continue practice in 9032A. Last week and this week
Wall High has been using 9032 for Advance Placement testing. They were
short of space at the HS. Nearly 250 students used our facility.
9) Thanks to Bob Judge and Trinity Episcopal Church of Asbury Park we
now have a 13 passenger bus. It is behind the hotel. Thank you Bob!!!
10) Thanks to Steve Makrinos the Fort Monmouth Industrial Reps
Association (IRA) held a luncheon in our hotel. Many of the reps worked
at Camp Evans. They are making a donation for the tours. Thanks to
Steve G. for being tour guide. Thanks to Mike G. for getting the place
set up.
11) Mel Nussbaum will be bring the five new dioramas to todays meeting.
His radio and first computer dioramas are a big hit with the family
visitors. Nice work Mel.
12) Will Somers and the wave science guys are working to join InfoAge to
help get their museum started. We have a spot for them.
13) We planted 100+ hosta plants on the west hotel hill to improve the
look and reduce the hill mowing work for Pete and Nels.
14) Thank you to John B. for all the recent website improvements. We
now have a hit counter on every page. We also have a new frontpage graphic

**Rocket Science Education Weekend canceled due to State Eagle Issues

It have been a extremely busy time. Good Progress - high stress
Our audit is complete. All is good. We now have an audited financial
report for foundations who require one. We need to tune up a few
procedural items in our record keeping.
Our board of trustees is expanding by four new members, possibly a
fifth. We will discuss how to appoint a representative from the
membership at the meeting.
Important issue. You will notice a third of the parking lot is closed
off. Do not enter the closed off area. The persons who watch the
eagles are reporting our activities to the state fish and wildlife
people. They have called in a number of issues. Please do not approach
or tell these persons anything. We are not to make noise during our
events. Thus we have canceled the Rocket Education event. If you use
the parking lot you must go immediately and directly into a building.
We can not hold the car-show in the parking lot. We are working on a
new layout for that event. Do not walk along Marconi road or drive
near cottage 9001. We can not mow or do any property maintenance along
Marconi road. The state will be posting signs in our parking lot
shortly. We will discuss this at the meeting. This is not a joke. I
have been threatened with a federal summons, if there are any problems
with the eagle chick. Luckily, the eagles are doing well in the
location they chose. The hundreds of cars, trucks and motorcycles
passing by them on Marconi road do not bother them. According to the
state, just we do. Remember we are being watched and these people are
reporting on our activities to the state on a daily basis.
As you know the TIROS Celebration went well. Bill M. of Cablevision has
a great segment on our TIROS celebration on his Neighborhood Journal. I
taped a copy. We can view it on the VCR Dan J set up for us.
We are making progress on our Community Block Grant thanks to Larry
Tormey and John Truhan. This will repair many of the broken curbs and
sidewalks around the hotel, 9032 and the center entrance to 9010.
Congratulations to Nels W., Pete R., Matt and Dan G. They opened the
expnded Military Technology Museum vehicle display in 9011. It looks
great. They had it ready for the veterans visit and the anniversary of
V-E day
Thanks to Randy G. and the Monmouth County Historical Commission's
Weekend in Olde Monmouth we have lots of visitors on May 1st & 2nd.
Commissioner Barbara Kolarsick-Harrigan visited our site. Another great
event hosted by the Commission.

1) Reports form Ray Chase and the Wednesday group:
Present were Ray C., Harry K., Dave Snellman, Vince L., and Al K. The
balance weights for the doors to 9032 A section were installed so doors
operate easily. If it is desired to lock this section (not a bad idea)
a lock and latches need to be added. Continued work on 9032 C
communications and EW rooms. Went on scrounging search of buildings to
be razed to collect up hardware, venetian blinds, etc. Moved more stuff
to storage in H building. Worked on planning for the Jewish museum in
Freehold.
Present were: Ray C., Al K, Vince L., Dave Snellman, Harry K., John T.,
Steve G. and Joe G. Most of the day was taken up hosting the group of
25 veterans including several ladies. It was good experience for all
and we learned some things that we must alter to make the tour more
comfortable for seniors. ADA access is sorely needed. I was not sure
that the vehicle tour would work but it went fine and was most
impressive. It was great on Wednesday but when I saw what Nels and crew
did between Wednesday and Sunday I was amazed at their effort and
how superb it looked.
The Divers museum and the MARCH museum were also open and manned.
Some clean-up had to be done quickly before the group arrived, we must
strive to keep the place neat and not just dump trash anywhere we feel.
Some work was done on the future communications room in 9032C and Al K.
repaired a WWII field telephone switchboard for the communications
display so we can operate field phones through it.

A report from Ray and the NJARC - Wednesday crew.
Present were: Al K., Dave Snellman, Ray C., Vince L. & Harry K. Steve
G. & Joe G. were off pursuing other tasks. Hanging of two doors in the
future communications room was completed and work on the two doors in
the EW room was started. Fire rigging of the doors to the 9032 A
section was done. Balancing weights for these doors still needs to be
finished but some "fusible links" are required, will see if Nels can
provide. Some additional moving of museum displays and other work was done.

Great events - Good Progress - Great press coverage
The TIROS Celebration went well. The disk looked great in its new coat
of paint with the American flags. The platform the New Outlook Pioneers
and Lucent volunteers build for us looked excellent. The TIROS building
looked great with the newly painted floor, repaired sheetrock and all
the posters, and the TIROS cake was great. We had excellent Press
coverage. We can look forward to another nice article by Jamie and
another nice segment in Neighborhood Journal by Bill M. The April 1
story on the front page of the Star Ledger was nice.
Thank you to Bob, Pete and the PACE volunteers who helped get the leaves
packed up, the platform assembled and the grass cut. We posted the
photo of the PACE volunteers under the dish to the National Trust for
Historic Preservation website for the "This place matters" week.
Thank you to Steve G. for working with the PACE volunteers, replacing
the missing glass panes in the interior doors and the dozen and one
trips getting ready for the event.
Thank you to Joe G. for getting the coffee and refreshments ready for
all to enjoy. Joe and others helped relocate the Lucent platform to the
Diana/TIROS site.
Thank you to Dan L. for printing and lamination the 30+ posters with
photos of Camp Evans space history. Dan also used the rope system to
fly our flags on the dish.
Thank you to Dave Sica for filming a group oral history interview of
the RCA TIROS team members at the RCA 50th TIROS celebration.

posters for the guard shack. Vince, Harry and Steve R. continued work
on windows for the Communications room in 9032 C and also started
fitting original doors to replace the modern hollow core doors. Dave
and Ray C. picked up some donations from a Wall resident who is moving
away; nice Atwater Kent restored console radio as well as a very nice
Oak Vintage Wall telephone and some other goods. Ray C. and Steve G.
worked in the H building storage room fixing lights and inventorying and
listing donations. John T. was moving books to the attic.
-last Wednesday- Present were: Vince L., Steve R., Al K., Harry K., Joe,
Steve G. Dave Snellman and Ray C. Steve R. & Harry K. pretty much
finished up the windows in the 9032 C planned communications room. Al,
Vince & Dave hung two proper period doors for the communications room to
replace the modern hollow core doors. They also started work on helping
John C. with the doors to the planned EW room. Ray fixed the door
closers to the doors from the vestibule to the C section so that the
doors operate easier and are properly rigged as fire doors. The doors
to the A section need this same treatment. Also worked on donation
inventory lists.

2) Pete R. was out yesterday cleaning leaves on the east side of the
hotel. Mike G. cleaned the leaves from behind the hotel and the parking
lot. Pete also retrieved the TORO mower from the repair shop and gave
our other equipment their spring service.
3) We will postpone the Wall of Honor event. The committee has not
picked honorees and we more committee workers and time to make a June
event.
4) The Monroe Township Veterans Council will be visiting with 25 WWII
Vets. Ray C. is coordinating this for the 28th.
5) Dan Jacobs edged the sidewalk along the front of the hotel. Dan is
usually on site each weekday morning around 9AM for his InfoAge
exercise. You are invited to join him.
6) We have nearly completed the process to join VolunteerMatch.org
7) Dan L. completed the InfoAge Marconigraph / InfoAge Signaleer. Bob
J. supplied the labels and we put them on at the last Wednesday meeting
after the Bald Eagle life presentation. Thank you to all who helped and
thank you to Bob J. for handling all the ever changing bulk mail hassle.
8) Please honor the 'Endangered Species Area' signs and give the eagle
family room to raise young. There are continuing issues with the state
volunteers monitoring the eagles. Please bring all issues to me. If
need be we will have a meeting with the game warden and township officials.

The letters asking all persons who have donated or attended an event to
join InfoAge are labled, stampted and in the mail. We are hoping for
new members.
10) The NJARC members and others are helping find information on the
industries in the1945 list of NJ companies who earned the Army-Navy E –
award . We have information on 25 companies so far. We hope to reach
out to them for donations in the near future.
11) This weekend the Wall ROTC will continue practice in 9032A. They
moved from the TIROS building.

13) We are still hoping the bill to name Camp Evans the state of NJ
Living Memorial will be introduced by State Senator Sean Kean. We need

14) On Thursday evening (5:30 PM) the Wall Chamber of Commerce is
holding an event in our hotel. If you would like to be on-site to show
visitors our exhibits, please let me know.
15) I planted 70 day lilies along the north side of 9010C to improve the
site look.

Great events - Good Progress - Great press coverage
The TIROS Celebration went well. The disk looked great in its new coat
of paint with the American flags. The platform the New Outlook Pioneers
and Lucent volunteers build for us looked excellent. The TIROS building
looked great with the newly painted floor, repaired sheetrock and all
the posters, and the TIROS cake was great. We had excellent Press
coverage. We can look forward to another nice article by Jamie and
another nice segment in Neighborhood Journal by Bill M. The April 1
story on the front page of the Star Ledger was nice.
Thank you to Bob, Pete and the PACE volunteers who helped get the leaves
packed up, the platform assembled and the grass cut. We posted the
photo of the PACE volunteers under the dish to the National Trust for
Historic Preservation website for the "This place matters" week.
Thank you to Steve G. for working with the PACE volunteers, replacing
the missing glass panes in the interior doors and the dozen and one
trips getting ready for the event.
Thank you to Joe G. for getting the coffee and refreshments ready for
all to enjoy. Joe and others helped relocate the Lucent platform to the
Diana/TIROS site.
Thank you to Dan L. for printing and lamination the 30+ posters with
photos of Camp Evans space history. Dan also used the rope system to
fly our flags on the dish.
Thank you to Dave Sica for filming a group oral history interview of
the RCA TIROS team members at the RCA 50th TIROS celebration.
Recent events and progress: Please email things I miss to fill in the gaps.
1) Reports form Ray Chase and the Wednesday group:
-two weeks ago- Present were, Ray C., Al K., Steve G., Steve R., John
T., Dave Snellman, Harry K. , Vince L. and Joe. Al K. worked on making
posters for the guard shack. Vince, Harry and Steve R. continued work
on windows for the Communications room in 9032 C and also started
fitting original doors to replace the modern hollow core doors. Dave
and Ray C. picked up some donations from a Wall resident who is moving
away; nice Atwater Kent restored console radio as well as a very nice
Oak Vintage Wall telephone and some other goods. Ray C. and Steve G.
worked in the H building storage room fixing lights and inventorying and
listing donations. John T. was moving books to the attic.
-last Wednesday- Present were: Vince L., Steve R., Al K., Harry K., Joe,
Steve G. Dave Snellman and Ray C. Steve R. & Harry K. pretty much
finished up the windows in the 9032 C planned communications room. Al,
Vince & Dave hung two proper period doors for the communications room to
replace the modern hollow core doors. They also started work on helping
John C. with the doors to the planned EW room. Ray fixed the door
closers to the doors from the vestibule to the C section so that the
doors operate easier and are properly rigged as fire doors. The doors
to the A section need this same treatment. Also worked on donation
inventory lists.

2) Pete R. was out yesterday cleaning leaves on the east side of the
hotel. Mike G. cleaned the leaves from behind the hotel and the parking
lot. Pete also retrieved the TORO mower from the repair shop and gave
our other equipment their spring service.
3) We will postpone the Wall of Honor event. The committee has not
picked honorees and we more committee workers and time to make a June
event.
4) The Monroe Township Veterans Council will be visiting with 25 WWII
Vets. Ray C. is coordinating this for the 28th.
5) Dan Jacobs edged the sidewalk along the front of the hotel. Dan is
usually on site each weekday morning around 9AM for his InfoAge
exercise. You are invited to join him.
6) We have nearly completed the process to join VolunteerMatch.org
7) Dan L. completed the InfoAge Marconigraph / InfoAge Signaleer. Bob
J. supplied the labels and we put them on at the last Wednesday meeting
after the Bald Eagle life presentation. Thank you to all who helped and
thank you to Bob J. for handling all the ever changing bulk mail hassle.
8) Please honor the 'Endangered Species Area' signs and give the eagle
family room to raise young. There are continuing issues with the state
volunteers monitoring the eagles. Please bring all issues to me. If
need be we will have a meeting with the game warden and township officials.
9) Thank you to Terry L., and the members of the membership committee.
The letters asking all persons who have donated or attended an event to
join InfoAge are labled, stampted and in the mail. We are hoping for
new members.
10) The NJARC members and others are helping find information on the
industries in the1945 list of NJ companies who earned the Army-Navy E –
award . We have information on 25 companies so far. We hope to reach
out to them for donations in the near future.
11) This weekend the Wall ROTC will continue practice in 9032A. They
moved from the TIROS building.
12) Will Somers and the wave science guys are working to join InfoAge to
help get their museum started. We have a spot for them.
13) We are still hoping the bill to name Camp Evans the state of NJ
Living Memorial will be introduced by State Senator Sean Kean. We need
to prepare an information package and possibly have some of our posters
ready as we will get short notice on when the request is accepted and
will be acted upon.
14) On Thursday evening (5:30 PM) the Wall Chamber of Commerce is
holding an event in our hotel. If you would like to be on-site to show
visitors our exhibits, please let me know.
15) I planted 70 day lilies along the north side of 9010C to improve the
site look.
16) Thank you to John T for hanging the portraits of Marconi and Sarnoff.

If we do not tell kids what great things others have done to improve our
nation how can we expect them to know what they are capable of.
