Report from Ray Chase:
Present were Ray C., Dave Snellman, Ron B., Al K. and Harry K. Wallboard and insulation was purchased and staged in 9312. Ron B. has started installing insulation. Wiring of 9312 is complete and has been blessed by the inspector. Al K. is continuing work on the Communications room. Fine tuning continues on the Mad Science Lab. Display items were gathered up and prepared for the Science Festival in Clifton. Harry K. took some of them on Wednesday in his station wagon. On Friday, a cargo van was rented and the remainder were loaded with help from Steve G. and brought to the Clifton High School where they were set up by Harry K. and Ray C. The Clifton Science Festival was manned on Saturday by Ray C., Harry K., Matt Reynolds and Fred for several hours. Evan was there with another of his members. On Sunday it was manned by Ray C., Harry K., Matt R., and later by Dave Sica and Richard Lee as well as the Evans crew. The display was folded at 5 PM on Sunday and loaded up with help from Matt, Dave and Richard. Monday morning it was returned to InfoAge with help from Steve G. The Science Festival was fantastically successful, more info to follow.

Comments on the Haunted Hike by Dave Sica - who I am told is an ACE with the smoke ring cannon:
If you haven't made it over to the "Haunted Hike" at InfoAge yet, there
are still two more days to go, this coming Friday and Saturday. The scale
of this event is just awesome. The hike probably covers an acre of ground
and you wouldn't believe how creepy an abandoned army base can be at
night under a full moon! There are dozens of dedicated and talented
actors playing the roles of all kinds of scary creatures and the amount
of work and creativity that's gone into the construction of the displays
is almost beyond my ability to comprehend. The InfoAge Haunted Hike is at
least as ambitious as any Halloween event anywhere and is a good deal
less expensive than many. It's also a major fund raiser for the
organization and a great tool for outreach into the community.
This past weekend was the first time I really participated in the event.
I had breezed through with a camera last year but working behind the
scenes in the mad scientist lab was something else. My hat is off to the
NJARC guys (primarily Ray Chase, Harry Klancer, Al Klase and Dave
Snellman) who put together a real crowd pleaser. You'll see pictures in the
NJARC newsletter and on the website, but you really have to be there in
person to get the full effect. And although the customers loved it, I can
personally guarantee you that it's even more fun to be part of the crew!
Most everyone (of the thousands of folks who've passed through so far)
left with a big smile on their face, even some of the older kids who came
in with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, as if they were just too cool
for us to possibly be able to entertain them. One teenaged skeptic even
left saying "hey man, thanks, that was great!"
The really scary part is that all during the event I kept getting ideas
on even more things we could do NEXT year.

The Haunted Hike is going great. Everyone has great comments. We have raised just over $24,000. We are well on the way to being able to put a new roof on one of the 9011 sections. Thank you to the many volunteers who are making this a great event. Thank you to the CACI employees who helped out and hopefully had fun too. As always, Blossom, OMARC. MARCH, NJHDA, MTMNJ, NJNG, MAST, Rob and the the Shore Players, Laura and the Wall thespians, the Wall ROTC. Plus the walk is safer thanks to Wall DPW patching the many potholes. Please come volunteer and have some fun at the same time.
The NJ Science Festival was great. I can not put it any better than Dave Sica:
"I was able to drop by for the last couple of hours today to help pack up
the exhibit.
Wow!
I have a friend who always says "if you want to be big, you've got to
look big." The InfoAge booth looked ten times better than the display put
on by Liberty Science Center and as good or better than nearly everything
else there. And I was blown away by the kids; I guess the ones who
dragged their parents there (or maybe were dragged there by their
parents) were exactly our target audience. I've never been peppered with
so many questions before! It was so much fun talking to little kids who
got all excited about this stuff. And it was also a little bit
encouraging that maybe the future of our country isn't going completely
to hell in a handbasket after all. Major kudos go to they guys who put
together this impressive display."

***It was fun and the five eras of computer development dioramas were a big hit. Mel dropped off a box of flyers to go with his exhibit. The satellites were a good draw too. MARCH had a great display and lots of interested visitors. We hope this outreach will net InfoAge more visitors and more supporters.

*On Monday we had the pleasure of hosting the Monmouth County Historical Commission meeting at InfoAge. The commissioners spent lots of time in the museums. They have helped us with grants to put a new roof on the TIROS building, repair the WWII addition on the Marconi Power plant, fix structure issues with 9029, 9031 and 9034. Neil is working on a grant to have a second roof put on 9034 to stop the growing number of leaks. Last count was eight.
***Festering and at times flaming issue. We need to file for permits when ever we do work on our buildings. Twice I have had to force folks to get permits for electrical work. At times we do not realize we need permits for the work we are doing. We will develop an internal form to submit to our 'Building and Grounds committee' prior to any work actions. They will review the form and submit the information to the town.
* The buildings and Grounds committee met on Monday at 9 AM.
*Our CBDG is moving along thanks to Lou R. and John Truhan. We are waiting on the bid specs.
*Larrison Fuel and Oil completed cleaning our hotel boiler so we will to be ready for this winter. They recommended working with Central Boiler to get the zone valves the Army disabled working
* Mike G. visited Brian Boyce, who makes amazing WWII dioramas. Brian would like to display some of his dioramas at InfoAge. Mike loves his dioramas.
* Thank you to Mike G. for the new giant door mat at the back of the hotel.
* Thank you to Jamie B. for calling us to put together a story on our Haunted Hike.
--This Sunday we had a low number volunteers on site (due to Haunting Hangovers), but a nice flow of guests. On site were JoAnnn B., Frank O., Joe G., Neil N., Dave Snellman of the NJARC and others I am sure if have missed.

Present were: Al K., Harry K., Ray C., Ron B., Dave Snellman. Work consisted of making preparations for the Science Festival at Clifton on the 23/24th and fine tuning the Mad Science Lab displays in the Firehouse.

The Haunted Hike is going great. Everyone has great comments. We have raised just over $13,100. We have kept expenses down this year by creative reuse of previous years materials. So we are well on the way to being able to put a new roof on one of the 9011 sections. The kids love the train. The actors make the show lots of scary fun. Based on the comments of visitor's if we gave a Best Actor award - it would be DJ. We have moved the Casper house to the hotel dinning room as building 9059 is not available. Thank you to the many volunteers who are making this a great event. This weekend we will be without Judy's leadership so we will need extra help. Please come volunteer and have some fun at the same time.
The roof leaks in the H-building main hallway are gone as the remaining part of the hall was re-roofed on Monday. We also had the leak in the Hotel Piazza repaired. This turned out to be worst than expected. It is good we did this before winter.
*Thanks to Harry K. and the NJARC we are making progress on an exhibit at the NJ science festival.

*The IEEE celebrated the naming of TIROS I as a historic milestone in technology history at a dinner at the Sarnoff facility on Monday the 27th. Frank O'Brien, Dave Sica and I represented us. The IEEE commissioned a second plague our TIROS site. We will have an installation ceremony. Dru Reynolds is setting the date in November.
* Brian Boyce, who makes amazing WWII dioramas met with Mike G. on Sunday. Mike will visit Brian's home to see his work. Brian would like to display some of his dioramas at InfoAge.

Our Wednesday work day actually started on Tuesday when Ray C., Ron B., Al K., Dave Snellman and Phil V. put in a full day getting our Mad Science Display set up in the Firehouse. Then on Wednesday, the same crew minus Phil V. but added to by Harry K. put in another full day continuing with our Halloween display.

This week, I spent much time preparing to attend the World Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science to represent InfoAge with a booth and a display. Over the course of the weekend, Steve Goulart, Matt Reynolds of NJARC and myself manned the booth. We made some interesting contacts, and the stack of brochures we brought all but disappeared. This event made obvious a change or two that should be made to the brochure. On Tuesday, I secured a donation of a fairly recent small office copier that is fully functional and came with an additional unused toner cartridge.

Report from Martin Flynn: Here's the list of what we accomplished for Wednesday's meeting:
Backboard for data and telecomm equipment in 9116 mounted by Jeff Harshman, Ron Oleander, and myself. Jeff will paint during week. Data equipment and cabling will be installed next weekend.
Additional J type lock cores acquired, waiting on visit from Best Locks for advise on keying.
Main distribution frame in 9059 cleared of unused jumpers in preparation for PBX installation.
Tested existing telephone cable from 9006 to 9059, determined length. Length tests indicates cables are terminated either in vault or on distribution frame in 9059.
Determined what portions of existing distribution frame in 9059 are suitable for re-use, developing drawings for permitting process.
Cast iron extension wings for workshop table saw have been acquired.
Starter (control relay) for shop air compressor was acquired.
Harris audio console for future broadcast radio exhibit delivered to museum.

***NOTE: Our fiscal year ended Sept 30th. Judy and I will be working to get our records to our accountant in the easy audit-able format. Please finish the evaluations of the few remaining non-cash contributions - please - I hate hunting you down and nagging you****
*The fifth Wall of Honor was a great event. It was touching to see the families of the two honorees proudly pose for photos with all their children and grandchildren. It was also nice to thank our former trustees for their service - Andy DeAngelo, Barb Ruane, and Larry Tormey. Thank you to Lynn B, Mike G. and the BOT for a ton of work to make this event a success. Thanks to Mike G. the dining room, foyer and lounge looked great. Thank you to Capt. Jim Steinbaugh and the Wall ROTC for opening the ceremony as color guards. Thank you to Dave Snellman for getting the sound system setup. Dave Sica documented the event with a 2--camera professional video setup. Now the programs are done, food enjoyed, tables set and cleared, signs were made, licenses secured, plaques presented, tons of hard work and lots of details were completed.
--It is sad to report that Trustee Dunkin Thecker passed away at age 95. If not for Dunkin's and Pat's kindness we would not have the beautiful dining room finished so nicely.

*Thanks to Nels, Judy and their legions of volunteers the new and improved Haunted Hike's first night was fantastic. Matt Orgill's website, complete with a promotional video is great. The visitors like the new hike. So many persons have helped. A special thanks to Ken C. and the Wall Public Works who patched over 16 potholes along to Hike. No one fell or hurt themselves in the holes and once the Halloween events are over our roads are in better shape. I can not possibly name all who have helped and are helping make the Haunted Hike a success. A separate email is called for. We hope the raise enough funds to re roof another H-building section. Twelve of the sixteen sections are haunted by rain leaks. We have to stop the drips from HELL. Thanks to Judy and Jamie B. our Haunted Hike had a nice article in the Coast Star. This had to boost attendance.
*Thanks to State Senator Sean Kean bill SCR85 was unanimously passed by the NJ Senate. Next stop is the Assembly.

*We located the lost water shut off for the TIROS building 9162. It took a lot of digging. The shutoff needs repair or replacement. The Wall Twp. is helping out. Capt Steinbaugh of Wall H.S. is working with the school to get us help to reactivate a restroom in the TIROS building so they can use it. Our next step is to add the handicap restroom architect Paul Moore designed for the extra space created when we modernized the heat and added A/C.
*OMARC had a Ham Fest on Oct. 2 - one of their best.
* Dan Leib has been doing a great job distributing our brochure. We have 5,000 more on hand.
*We may be given early radar information by Arthur Viewgers family for our archive.
Thanks to John Cervini and Paul Zigo of Brookdale are in discussions with a fellow, Brian Boyce, who makes amazing WWII dioramas. He would like to display some at InfoAge.
* John Cervini has plans to reach out to Columbia University to team with them to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Regenerative Circuit at our site when it was the Marconi Belmar High- powered Wirless station. I bet Al Klase would help.
* Evan (no s) Koblentz has been making more progress in researching Camp Evans roll in early computer development.
*Steve G. has been our man on site, helping all who need to get access or have questions.
* BRAC contractors are at work near the river working on 9004 and 9005 the original Marconi operations building and the suspected U.S. Navy auxiliary operations building built during WWI.
* We have over 40 additional folding tables thanks to the purchase of heavy duty folding table leg sets. We took the wood tops off the the metal desks left at Camp Evans by the Army. A $500 investment in legs and volunteer time has netted us way over $4000.00 worth of tables.
*Thank you to Dan and Terry Lieb, Neil Norell and Mike Golub for hosting the meeting of the Life Saving Service Historical Society.
* We are working toward submitting a grant request to the Monmouth County Historical Commission. In the running are a second roof for 9034, Repairs to the roof and replacement doors for 9097, the foundry and the way out idea of moving the WWII special antenna shelter 9020 to the historic district to save it from demo. I meet with one contractor today, a second tomorrow and possibly a third.
* As always, Nels and Pete have the site looking great. I donated and planted 12 more giant hostas to make the front of the Marconi Hotel look more landscaped.
* We hosted a second Ice Cream to help 'Rescue Ridge' raise funds for their animal rescue mission.
*This Month we have displays on Camp Evans history in the Wall Township and Howell Township libraries.
*Our National Historic landmark application is progressing thanks to Robie Lange of the NPS.
*Thank you to News Channel 12 and Mr. Kurt Siglan for the spot on the TIROS anniversary.

It is important we record all the work we have done. As you look back on past emails in our blog (thankd Dave Sica) it is impressive how much we have gotten done. And, you can reduce how annoyed I get with myself as I drive to work and things I forgot pop into my head.

It was also nice to thank our former trustees for their service - Andy DeAngelo, Barb Ruane, and Larry Tormey. Thank you to Lynn B, Mike G. and the BOT for a ton of work to make this event a success. Thanks to Mike G. the dining room, foyer and lounge looked great. Thank you to Capt. Jim Steinbaugh and the Wall ROTC for opening the ceremony as color guards. Thank you to Dave Snellman for getting the sound system setup. Dave Sica documented the event with a 2--camera professional video setup. Now the programs are done, food enjoyed, tables set and cleared, signs were made, licenses secured, plaques presented, tons of hard work and lots of details were completed.
--It is sad to report that Trustee Dunkin Thecker passed away at age 95. If not for Dunkin's and Pat's kindness we would not have the beautiful dining room finished so nicely.
*Thanks to Harry K. and the NJARC we are making progress on an exhibit at the NJ science festival.
*Lou R. has filed the paperwork for a CCO inspection in 9032 and 9059. Joe and Steve have been doing the final details that show we care.
*Our CBDG is moving along thanks to Lou R. and John Truhan. We are waiting on the bid specs.
*Larrison Fuel and Oil completed cleaning our hotel boiler so we will to be ready for this winter. They recommended working with Central Boiler to get the zone valves the Army disabled working
*Thanks to Nels, Judy and their legions of volunteers the new and improved Haunted Hike's first night was fantastic. Matt Orgill's website, complete with a promotional video is great. The visitors like the new hike. So many persons have helped. A special thanks to Ken C. and the Wall Public Works who patched over 16 potholes along to Hike. No one fell or hurt themselves in the holes and once the Halloween events are over our roads are in better shape. I can not possibly name all who have helped and are helping make the Haunted Hike a success. A separate email is called for. We hope the raise enough funds to re roof another H-building section. Twelve of the sixteen sections are haunted by rain leaks. We have to stop the drips from HELL. Thanks to Judy and Jamie B. our Haunted Hike had a nice article in the Coast Star. This had to boost attendance.
*Thanks to State Senator Sean Kean bill SCR85 was unanimously passed by the NJ Senate. Next stop is the Assembly.
*The IEEE celebrated the naming of TIROS I as a historic milestone in technology history at a dinner at the Sarnoff facility on Monday the 27th. Frank O'Brien, Dave Sica and I represented us. The IEEE commissioned a second plague our TIROS site. We will have an installation ceremony. Dru Reynolds is setting the date in November.
*We located the lost water shut off for the TIROS building 9162. It took a lot of digging. The shutoff needs repair or replacement. The Wall Twp. is helping out. Capt Steinbaugh of Wall H.S. is working with the school to get us help to reactivate a restroom in the TIROS building so they can use it. Our next step is to add the handicap restroom architect Paul Moore designed for the extra space created when we modernized the heat and added A/C.
*OMARC had a Ham Fest on Oct. 2 - one of their best.
* Dan Leib has been doing a great job distributing our brochure. We have 5,000 more on hand.
*We may be given early radar information by Arthur Viewgers family for our archive.
Thanks to John Cervini and Paul Zigo of Brookdale are in discussions with a fellow, Brian Boyce, who makes amazing WWII dioramas. He would like to display some at InfoAge.
* John Cervini has plans to reach out to Columbia University to team with them to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Regenerative Circuit at our site when it was the Marconi Belmar High- powered Wirless station. I bet Al Klase would help.
* Evan (no s) Koblentz has been making more progress in researching Camp Evans roll in early computer development.
*Steve G. has been our man on site, helping all who need to get access or have questions.
* BRAC contractors are at work near the river working on 9004 and 9005 the original Marconi operations building and the suspected U.S. Navy auxiliary operations building built during WWI.
* We have over 40 additional folding tables thanks to the purchase of heavy duty folding table leg sets. We took the wood tops off the the metal desks left at Camp Evans by the Army. A $500 investment in legs and volunteer time has netted us way over $4000.00 worth of tables.
*Thank you to Dan and Terry Lieb, Neil Norell and Mike Golub for hosting the meeting of the Life Saving Service Historical Society.
* We are working toward submitting a grant request to the Monmouth County Historical Commission. In the running are a second roof for 9034, Repairs to the roof and replacement doors for 9097, the foundry and the way out idea of moving the WWII special antenna shelter 9020 to the historic district to save it from demo. I meet with one contractor today, a second tomorrow and possibly a third.
* As always, Nels and Pete have the site looking great. I donated and planted 12 more giant hostas to make the front of the Marconi Hotel look more landscaped.
* We hosted a second Ice Cream to help 'Rescue Ridge' raise funds for their animal rescue mission.
*This Month we have displays on Camp Evans history in the Wall Township and Howell Township libraries.
*Our National Historic landmark application is progressing thanks to Robie Lange of the NPS.
*Thank you to News Channel 12 and Mr. Kurt Siglan for the spot on the TIROS anniversary.

As always, you know I forget stuff as I am putting this email together. I even forget stuff I do. Until I get the right medication I could use help. Send in a quick email on Monday of what you did. It is important we record all the work we have done. As you look back on past emails in our blog (thankd Dave Sica) it is impressive how much we have gotten done. And, you can reduce how annoyed I get with myself as I drive to work and things I forgot pop into my head.
