STATUS REPORT:

We are in Emergency Stabilization mode now. We are attacking worse first. We face the challenges of keeping the momentum of our regular activities increasing and meeting the challenges of the additional grounds and buildings.

We are working to secure the remaining broken or missing doors. We need more helpers on the 'H' building security. Steve G. can only get so much done by himself. We have to repair the three roof leaks that we suspect can be causing structural damage in the 'H' buildings.

We need to begin repainting the metal DDUs to protect them from further rust damage. Anyone? Help!

Just some of the things I know of or can recall.

THE PAST WEEK AT INFOAGE:

The Wall of Home was a success. It was well attended. The honorees were fantastic. More amazing Camp Evans history is brought forth. The honorees and their families were touched by the event. All were pleased. Mike R., Bob G., and Steve M., did great work at the podium. Thank you to all InfoAge members who attended.

The honorees were:

  • William Kenneally for Surveillance Radar Systems - Remember the Iraqi road of death in Gulf War I - the radar systems that found the convoy were born at Evans.
  • Michael Mirachi for Laser Rangefinders and Designation – Remember those laser guided bombs hitting Iraqi tanks etc. - It is Camp Evans development started when lasers where a solution looking for a problem.
  • Davis Noyes for Accomplishments in Signal Intelligence - his systems protect Air Force One.

Thanks to:

  • Mike and Barb R. for making all the arrangements, getting the invitations and programs printed. Barb, Mike and Tom set the tables and Barb did the lion’s share of the cleanup.
  • Mike G. for getting additional tables as well as the donation of four tables.
  • Dave Snellman for setting up the sound system.
  • Dan L. for printing, laminating and hanging our Camp Evans posters of volunteer’s activities, eagle scouts and Camp Evans historic photos.
  • Dave Sica recorded the event. The introductions and talks by the honorees where great history from their insider view. This is valuable information.
  • Nels W., Pete R. and Bob W. mowed and weed whacked everything and cut the front hedges to make the site look great for the Wall of Honor Reception. Bib W. mowed the Diana / TIROS site.

Frank O. has found great NASA resources for the NHL application for the TIROS site.

Frank also completed a new great looking entrance sign with the Stika lettering machine.

Matt is working on the path from 9003 to 9004/5 to earn his eagle award. He is working with the 1914 Henderson Photos to approximate the wireless operators path to their desks. Under Steve G's guidance he is making good progress.

Thank you to the NJARC, especially Harry Klancer, Ray Chase, Al Klase and Dave Snellmen, for cleaning the gate one guard house - 9093. It looks great.

At the Diana / TIROS site the TLM-18 satellite tracking antenna is being given its prime coat. It looks great.

The 'U.S. ARMY" and "SIGNAL CORPS" signs were removed. Dan L. is working on replacement signs.

This work is enabled by the grant the Harris Corporation gave us.

JCP&L Layout tech John Halsey has completed the plans for the rework of the Diana / TIROS site power feeds. The paperwork has arrived. Rich B. will guide us how to get started with the work.

The painting of the prime coat on the 9120 & 9342 is complete. We have begun painting 9034, which measure 60' by 100'. This will take a few days.

Dan J. has the Computer education center ready for business on Sundays. Dan - help us with an announcement for the press.

Dan is also running a morning Landscaping & exercise class has improved the look of 9010D and has stacked the salvaged fence pipes for easy relocation.

Bob G. has made even more progress with the Camp Evans history book. He is distributed trial copies for guests of the Wall of Honor to review in the hope they can contribute.

On Friday evening members of the Garden State Central met in the hotel

Larry T. completed and submitted the Community Development Block Grant. If the grant is funded the dangerous broken curbs and sidewalks around the hotel and 9032 will be repaired.

The scratch coat of plaster on 9006 is done. This will satisfy the MCHC grant. I have photos to submit with the form to apply for the balance of the grant.

We were contacted by a filmmaker whose grandfather, Dr. Eduard Gerber, was a member of Operation PaperClip. On July 12th she will be visiting to do interviews.

Dan L. Breeze radio ad is on the air - it sounds great - we hope to have more visitors as a result

This Sunday we had a small number of very interested visitors: On hand were: Steve G., Frank O., JoAnne B., Neil N., Dan L., Dan J. Harry K., Phil V., and others.

Many persons are working to help save Camp Evans and give it a future in education and as a place to honor those who served. Thank you to all.
